I Might Not Be Where I Want to Be... But I’m Exactly Where I Need to Be

From aircraft hangars to home offices. Lessons on presence, pivots, and perspective.

There was a time I would lie awake at night replaying all my decisions:

  • “What if I went abroad as an aircraft mechanic?”

  • “What if I stuck it out in real estate?”

  • “What if I didn’t pivot so much over the past 6 years?”

It was easy to feel like I wasted time. Like I jumped from one thing to the next without building anything solid.

But one day, while sitting with my wife and daughter, fully present in that moment, something shifted.

This... being here with them... was exactly what I wanted.

I realized I’d been making the best decisions I could at every step. Decisions that aligned with what mattered most: my family.

“You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backward.”

– Steve Jobs

The Journey That Brought Me Here

I could have pursued a career abroad as an aircraft mechanic. I might have earned thousands of dollars.

But I wouldn’t be here watching my daughter grow up. I wouldn’t be able to teach her life skills or be there for my wife when she needed me.

I could have built a career in real estate. But I would have spent my days commuting (6 hours) away from home.

Instead, I pivoted. Again and again. From being a mechanic… to a real estate agent… to a virtual assistant… to an executive assistant… and now, an appointment setter.

And in 3 yemars of working fro home, I’ve tripled my income. I’m in sales now, with the potential to earn even more.

Each step gave me clarity. Each pivot taught me more about what I want and what I don’t.

The Lesson That Changed Everything

“Knowing comes from doing.”

You can study, plan, and dream all you want. But you’ll never truly know until you step into the arena.

Trying different paths gave me insights I couldn’t have gotten from books alone:

  • I know what drains me.

  • I know what excites me.

  • I know my true priorities in a way I never did before.

And I’m lucky. Lucky to have had the time, resources, and support to pivot this much in my 20s. Lucky enough to fail fast and learn faster.

“Loving what you do is the ultimate unlock. Don’t chase what’s hot, chase what feels right to you.”

– Gary Vaynerchuk

A Word to My Past Self

“It’s okay to look back. It’s okay to look forward. But never forget to live right here, right now.”

Perspective changes everything.

When you realize where you are now versus where you were, gratitude replaces regret.

When you align your present actions with your future vision, clarity replaces anxiety.

And when you stay present, you build courage for whatever the future holds.

What’s Next? Staying Present While Building Forward

The truth? None of us knows what the future holds. Even the best plans can be derailed.

So I focus on what I can control today:

  • Providing for my family.

  • Being fully present with them.

  • Living and experiencing life to the fullest.

Success isn’t just about income. It’s about building a life you won’t regret living.

Closing Thoughts

I might not be where I want to be yet. But I’m exactly where I need to be.

Every step, every pivot, was a brick laid on my path.

“You can be grateful for how far you’ve come and still hungry for more.”

And that’s where I am now.
